Project Description

This one-story veterinary hospital consists of administrative offices and research laboratories. The building houses offices for a veterinarian and a nutritionist, along with a library that doubles as a conference room, a staff work area, and storage for medical records.

The hospital accommodates animals weighing up to 1000 pounds. The clinical area includes a surgery suite, treatment room, radiology and dark room, intensive care unit, necropsy suite, and a pharmacy. The clinical pathology and nutrition laboratories facilitate health and nutrition research vital for management of endangered species.

Animal and quarantine holding areas are divided into three cage sizes; small for the aquatic, small mammals, and reptiles, medium for larger mammals and large for carnivores and apes. All holding areas have access to outdoor cages by means of remotely operated doors.

The shell is constructed of split-face and burnished block veneer over load-bearing concrete block. The roof structure is supported on the exterior walls and on steel columns at the building interior
